N. Ramakrishnan – Mridangam

Hailing from a family of percussionists, N Ramakrishnan is a very talented mridangam vidwan with a performing experience of over 26 years. He is the son-in-law of the great Ghatam Maestro Shri T. H. Vikku Vinayakram and had his tutelage from his uncle, Shri T. H. Subashchandran.

Ramakrishnan has accompanied great stalwarts in the field of Carnatic music like Dr M. Balamuralikrishna, Mandolin U. Shrinivas, Smt Sudha Raghunathan and others. He has also provided mridangam accompaniment in the field of Bharathanatyam for reputed dancers such as Kum Shobana (actress), Smt Priyadarshini Govind, in Kuchipudi for Shanthala Shivalingappa and in Kathak for Pandit Chitresh Das. He travels regularly all over the world for these programs.

Ramakrishnan also performs as part of many fusion groups and has provided percussion for film music.

He is the recipient of many awards such as

Aasthaana Vidwan of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Laya Kala Vipanchee, Madhura Murali Puraskar and Muzhavisai Mani.

He has many albums to his credit, including a few with the legends Ustad Zakir Hussain and Vikku Vinayakram.
